The Illinois State Museum Society is proud to present an engaging History for Lunch talk with award-winning historian Dr. Crystal Sanders, author of A Forgotten Migration: Black Southerners, Segregation Scholarships, and the Debt Owed to Public HBCUs.

In this discussion, Dr. Sanders will explore how the joint efforts of Southern white segregationists to maintain segregation led to the underfunding of public Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) during and after the Civil Rights Movement. She will share the implications of this historical context and its ongoing impact on education and equity today.

Join us at the Lincoln Library for lunch at noon on May 20, 2025. Lunch is provided and all attendees will receive a free copy of Dr. Sanders’ book.

This event is free, but seating is limited. Registration is required! Please register your ticket online or call Kate Suits at 217-524-4222.
